Overview

This page is a complete step by step instructional guide to making your own bike light at a very affodable price. I will be describe with words and show you with pictures how to assemble a powerful bike light system that can be mounted to a bicycle helmet.

I will not be describing the electrical/battery side of the light system as I feel that leaves me open to far too many questions and liability. I will give some guidance but please look elsewhere for instructions for the battery system.

Hey Dean, Awsome idea, I just finished building one of your light systems but I am finding it hard to find the right battery, I've come across mostly 7.2V and 9.6V. The 9.6's I've seen have used the small AAA sized cells and have very low amperage so they wouldn't work as well as the bigger cells but I cant find a 12V without having to make my own. Any tips? what are you using?

Hey, you have a great blog here! I'm definitely going to bookmark you!
I have a lamp fixtures site/blog. It pretty much covers lamp fixtures related stuff.
Come and check it out if you get time :-)

Hey this blog is not about lighting

I have been doing hours of research on "Lighting" and it brought me to your blog on Overview. Anyways, Dean I was reading your blog and I think it is really cool. It’s really a pleasure reading your posts! Keep up the great work.

Keep blogging away :-)

This is a great idea and much cheaper than buying the equivalent type of light from a bike store. I'm definitely going to have a go at this project.
In reply to racin' jason...you may well want to try the type of battery used as backup in a home alarm system. They're a bit bulky but that will give you hours of light and are 12V.

Thanks for the helpful guide on building a set of bike lights at home.

I wonder if you'd be able to tackle making something like these bike lights, which have integrated indicators?

If so, please do post how you get on. It's a wacky idea, and a bit star trek, so something more simple and home made would be awesome.

It was certainly interesting for me to read the blog. Thanks for it. I like such themes and anything connected to this matter. I definitely want to read a bit more on that blog soon.
